25 BEST Dog Friendly Beaches In Maine To Discover In 2024
Looking for dog-friendly beaches in Maine? I’ve got you covered.
Maine is one of the most dog-friendly states in the US. And with thousands of miles of shoreline making up an entire side of the state’s border, you can bet there are a ton of dog-friendly beaches here.
I’ve lived in New England for almost 30 years and have spent a lot of time exploring the beaches of Maine. Growing up on the East Coast, the ocean has always had my heart and I’ve never felt as much peace as I do when I’m near the water.
I even met my best friend, Zica on a beach. She’s since become my full-time adventure buddy, so it’s important that everywhere we explore is dog-friendly.
Zica is a bit iffy about the ocean waves, but she lovesss to run around in the sand.
Here are my and Zica’s recommendations for the best dog-friendly beaches in Maine.
25 Best Dog Friendly Beaches In Maine
Maine has over 3,000 miles of coastline and more than 6,000 lakes and ponds inland. That’s a lot of beaches to explore, and most of them are dog-friendly!
Each beach has its own rules regarding when dogs are allowed to run around in the sand, and whether or not they’re allowed off-leash or in the water.
To help you out, I’ve written out all the details for the top 25 dog-friendly beaches in Maine to help you plan a beach day adventure. Let’s start exploring!
1. Fort Foster Park — Kittery Point, ME
Fort Foster Park is the perfect place for your pup to get their zoomies out.
This beach is dog-friendly year-round, but dogs must remain on leash during official business hours.
On the off hours (usually before 10 am and after 3 pm, but it depends on the time of year), your dog can run around freely.
The park has three small beaches, lots of walking trails, public restrooms, and picnic areas. The beaches are rocky during high tide and sandy at low tide.
There is a $20 per vehicle entrance fee. But pack your car full of friends, family, and your fur babies, and the fee is totally worth it.
Keep in mind, there are no trash cans. So you’ll have to pack out what you packed in, including taking care of pet waste.
76 Pocahontas Rd, Kittery Point, ME 03905
2. Seapoint Beach — Kittery Point, ME
If you’re looking for a bit of seaside fun, you’ll love Seapoint Beach in Kittery Point, Maine.

But just because your fuzzball can wander free, doesn’t mean you can lounge in the sand without keeping a watchful eye. Seapoint is a popular beach and these crowded conditions can lead to incidents if you’re not careful.
Beach parking is for Kittery residents only. So be aware that you may have to stretch your legs a bit as you walk from street parking to the edge of the water.

Essential Beach Gear For Dogs
Be prepared on your trip by packing this essential beach gear your dog will love.
Chill Out Bandana
Dogs don’t sweat like we do, so it’s super important to make sure your pup doesn’t overheat under the hot sun.
Use this Chill Out Bandana to help avoid heat exhaustion, or even worse, heat stroke.
With easy velcro attachments, all you need to do is soak it in water, give it a wring, and then wrap it around your dog’s neck. It’s way more effective than a wet cotton bandana or a wet towel!
Cooling Pad
Speaking of keeping your dog cool, be sure to add this cooling pad from The Green Pet Shop to your beach bag.
The sand gets really hot under that bright sun. This cooling pad gives your little furball his own place to rest and cool off between zoomies on the beach.
Gorilla Grip No Spill Portable Dog Water Bottle with Built-in Bowl
As a pet parent, your fur baby’s safety is your top priority. In addition to keeping your dog cool, it’s essential to make sure they have enough water to drink.
Bringing a standard dog bowl to the beach is messy and guaranteed to spill. Avoid the hassle and opt for this no-spill portable dog water bottle instead.
The water bottle will keep your dog’s water clean while the attached bowl makes it easy for him to drink when he gets thirsty.
Floating Fetch Toy
If your dog loves the water, he’s going to love this floating fetch toy. Designed with high-viz colors, your pup will be able to find and retrieve this toy even in the water. And since it can’t pop or sink, it’s fantastic for water tug of war!
This toy is buoyant but it’s not designed for chewing. So, keep this toy for beach time fun only.
